Benin Kingdom Bronze Royal Bust Wearing an Okuku Headdress
Bronze Benin Kingdom royal bust wearing an Okuku headdress
Female bust of a royal woman wearing what is believed to be the traditional Okuku headdress with stars and moons incorporated into it. Incredible details on the bust include braided bronze hair loops also adoring the headdress and stacked neck rings. With the beautiful patina it is estimated that it was crafted no later than the early 20th century cast in bronze using wax loss method. A small hole with a minor crack on the top of the head resulting from imperfections in the casting process. Weighing approximately 14 pounds and 16 inches tall.
